“I'm pretty sure that eating
chocolate keeps wrinkles away because I have never seen a 10 year old with a
Hershey bar and crows feet.” ― Amy Neftzger
Why
is it that men seem to age gracefully and society just accepts it and them? As men age they become sexy
with peppered gray hair, their sex appeal seems to increase (Sean Connery comes to mind), they seem aluring and interesting. I feel that it isn't quite so easy for women to age gracefully...or is it? It sure doesn't help that every time you turn around there is some commercial for a "miracle" or "magical" anti aging serum, cream, powder, pill, fruit/nut/animal extract that costs $100 for a jar the size of a quarter. I recently received a free sample of anti-aging eye serum and I asked the sales girl if people actually 1) pay these outrages prices and 2) use this stuff religiously? Her response - you bet and I certainly do and I am only 25...So I guess 15 years ago when I was broke and basically living in my truck I should have been scrimping and saving all my money to buy anti-aging serums instead of silly things like food, rent and gas! HaHa
The whole issue of aging certainly isn't restricted to women the beauty industry is targeting men hard as well. You have to have a full head of hair, you must be buff, not have too much body hair and of course curses of aging can be solved by some little pill that helps ensure satisfaction of all parties in the bedroom.
Do
we only get to grow old gracefully if we have laser hair removal and waxing (in new and not so interesting locations - on our bodies),
have some sort of
botox or other sythetic toxic substance injected into our face, boobs
and/or asses and/or have our assess and thighs vaccumed (i.e. liposuction-ed)? Not to mention the plethora of "anit-aging" face cream,
ass cream, thigh cream and everything else creams that we are meant to
be applying to our withering bodies multiple times...daily. I mean really...is this what I have
to look forward to as I age? Is my new best friend going to be some pseudo doctor who lasers off unwanted hair and makes my lips look like Julie Roberts'?
The answer for me is no. As I age I am staring to appreciate all the things so far this body has endured for the last 40 years. That means all the scars, stretch marks (if I had any of course haha), thigh and ass spread and all. Because to me aging gracefully is accepting yourself for who you are and that means accepting your body and mind 100%. I am not saying stop eating well and exercising your brain and body but I am saying stop worrying about body image, wrinkles and cellulite you are not the winner in this scenario.
The thing about aging gracefully or not is that your body does start to change and you know what no one really tells you the truth. Oh you hear that you body starts to fall apart but no one really elaborates. So I will. Men can't help you out here but Ladies here you go: gravity is a bitch, you will need to spend some serious cash on good bras...bras plural not fancy looking ones but functional ones - there are some pretty nice and beautiful ones out there that make you look and feel sexy - INVEST! Hair (not fine soft baby hair) will grow in places perhaps where it hasn't before EVER or at same place at double the rate - I am speaking hypothetically of course (not). Ladies please lets not lie to ourselves we age but lets do it well and with grace and dignity. My process will involve other things that get better as they age great friends, fine cheeses and wine comes to mind - its only fair to have company along the way.

What
helps with aging is serious cognition - thinking and understanding. You
have to truly grasp that everybody ages. Everybody dies. There is no
turning back the clock. So the question in life becomes: What are you
going to do while you're here?

der women are like aging strudels - the crust may not be so lovely, but the filling has come at last into its own.
